96 Back and Martyn Bootyspoon collide sonic worlds with debut collaborative EP
Aus Music
The title track and lead single 'Thicc!' arrives on June 21st ahead of the full EP on July 12th.
Real-world friends 96 Back and Martyn Bootyspoon have collaborated for the first time on their Thicc! EP, an ambitious hybrid of high-energy sounds that build bridges across the Atlantic. 96 Back is the prolific UK-based innovator known for pushing boundaries with his music on the likes of Central Processing Unit and Local Action. He was last on this label in February 2023 with his well-received Crass EP and, next to his solo work, he has collaborated with Happa, Skee Mask and Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon across everything from grime to IDM, electro to techno, pop and ambient and notably produced the critically acclaimed EP from Tampa based artists They Hate Change earlier this year.

Bootyspoon, meanwhile, is the Montreal-based DJ, producer and vocalist who brings raucous personality to his unique blend of house, grime and ghettotech on labels
like Local Action, Future Classic and LuckyMe, and collaborations with Sinjin Hawke, Avalon Emerson and The Blessed Madonna. Now, the pair merge their borderless musical backgrounds into thrilling and rave-ready sounds full of swagger and renegade attitude. The immediately impactful opener 'Thicc!' rides on sleek upbeat rhythms with shimmering synths drawn out and smudged into the spaces between the kicks. Zippy leads fizz with energy as warm chords bring the feel-good vibes.
'Pacha' (Tracker Mix) is a prickly cut with broken beats and plenty of pent-up energy. Meticulously crafted synths dart about the mix over drilling basslines that nail you to the floor while the Fever Mix of the same track ups the intensity. Manic 909s bring a frenzied atmosphere and coarse sheets of synth make for a wall of peak-time, sweat-inducing noise. Flipping the script one last time is 'Cobblezz' which rides on big, bold and bouncy club rhythms. The muscular groove is alive with synths - some warped, some wispy, and siren-like leads serve as a warrior cry that demand physical reactions.
