Bella Boo drops two new remixes of the title track from her recent Shakedown EP on Aus Music.
Swedish duo Aasthma and Alexi Delano aka ADNY serve up new versions that explore breakbeat and blissed-out sound.
Back in May, Bella Boo once again showed off her steamy blend of heavy house grooves and emotional synth work across three charming tunes on her Shakedown EP. It comes after releases on Studio Barnhus, a full-length album and sets everywhere from Panorama Bar to Printworks have established her as one of the brightest talents in the scene right now.
The first remix is from Aasthma, aka Pär Grindvik and Peder Mannerfelt, who were in the middle of writing other tracks with Bella when they heard the original. "There was something about that pad that instantly felt familiar - like catching a pirate radio station somewhere in South London during a late-night drive. I opened up the laptop, built the idea around that feeling, and it all came together surprisingly fast."
The original version of 'Shake Down' had dusty jungle breakbeats buried deep in the mix, but on this Aasthma Version, they are given centre stage. Around those meticulously designed drums are floating pads that suspend you above the floor while rising vocal talent KURT.'s voice is like a soothing balm for bruised souls. It's deep both physically and emotionally, so it works on main stages and in sweaty backrooms alike.
ADNY is another Swedish veteran in Alexi Delano, who was sent the demo and had no plans to remix it. "But there was something about KURT's voice, the lush pads, and the atmosphere of the semi-acapella version that immediately pulled me in. I headed straight into the studio, and a few hours later the remix was finished. I love those moments when a friend's creativity inspires you, takes over, and everything flows naturally."
His remix is more blissed out and insular. The four-four groove is soft and warm, with cosmic ambient adding scale and the vocals more subtly infused into the mix. Glowing synths are layered throughout as this most aching and beautiful late-night sound uplifts and transfixes in equal measure.
