Right now, Jorkes is finally getting the props they deserve after many years entrenched deep in the scene under several different roles. They run the well-respected Freeride Millenium label, have been resident at Romantica Club in Stuttgart for eight years and have a long-running radio show. They have
also long since championed the queer community, gender and egalitarian issues in their work, not least at their HOT all-gender sauna parties in Vienna.
As a producer, Germany-born but Austria-based Jorkes has landed on tasteful labels such as Permanent Vacation and Live At Robert Johnson and mixes up sensuous disco and rough-edged house. Releases on Freeride Millenium include provocative photography and artwork by Jorkes's partner ParisBöhm aka Daniel Rajcsanyi. On this latest release, the artist once again finds a perfect sweet spot between dance
floor dynamics and meaningful melodies.
The brilliant and timeless 'Free From Desire' is a quick and classic-sounding house track with smooth drums and hi-hats and an impassioned vocal whisper that is dark and erotic. The synths are rugged and add steaminess to the track, while more vocal mutters add extra character as the piano chords rise through the mix and eventually take centre stage to get hands in the air.
This superb label debut is the latest in a long line of creative successes for the vital Jorkes.
